Why Room Integrity Testing Matters

A clean-agent fire suppression system must do more than discharge the correct quantity of extinguishing agent. The protected enclosure must retain the agent at or above the required minimum concentration for the specified hold time. Leakage through doors, cable penetrations, raised floors, ceilings, ducts, service openings and other pathways can allow the concentration to decay too quickly.

Room Integrity Testing - also called Enclosure Integrity Testing or a Door Fan Test - provides a non-destructive way to evaluate this performance without discharging the clean agent. A calibrated door-fan system is used to pressurize and depressurize the enclosure, establishing its leakage characteristics.

TEC Measurement + Salimus Engineering Software

The technician enters the Site, Technician, Enclosure, Agent and Door-fan test information.The software then computes the leakage curve, Equivalent Leakage Area (EqLA), predicted agent hold time and PASS/FAIL result, while also performing quality checks and generating a professional PDF report.

Two Ways to Use TEC Test Data

The software supports the two field workflows most likely to be encountered:

  • TECTITE Express / TECLOG result - enter the leakage exponent (n) and Flow Coefficient (C) already calculated for depressurization and pressurization. This is the recommended/default workflow.

  • Raw fan-test points - enter measured pressure and airflow readings directly when a TECTITE/TECLOG result is not available. The Salimus application fits the leakage curve from the entered test point.

Optional cross-checks can include the correlation coefficient from a genuine multi-point test and the TECTITE Canadian EqLA at 10 Pa. The application can flag discrepancies that may indicate a units or data-entry problem.

Immediate Hold-Time Result

After the door-fan and enclosure information is entered, the result is presented immediately. In the demonstration shown in Figure 1, the application predicts a hold time of 913 seconds (15.22 minutes) against a required minimum of 600 seconds (10 minutes), resulting in a clear PASS.

The same results area displays the Equivalent Leakage Area at 10 Pa, including depressurization, pressurization and combined values. This gives the technician a fast result while retaining the engineering data behind the decision.

More Than a PASS/FAIL Button

The Salimus application is designed to preserve engineering traceability rather than operate as a black-box calculator. It provides the leakage exponent, leakage coefficient, EqLA, mixture-density and column-pressure parameters, interface height and other calculation information used to review the predicted hold time.

The software also records project and test details, technician and equipment information, calibration certificate references, enclosure geometry, extinguishing-agent data, test techniques, engineering judgment, identified leakage locations and remediation notes.

Built-In Verification and QA Checks

Field testing can be affected by background pressure, damper movement, directional leakage behaviour, insufficient pressure separation, unusual leakage exponents or simple data-entry errors. The Salimus application therefore performs automated checks and flags conditions that deserve review.

  • Bias pressure during the fan test outside the applicable tolerance.
  • Unusual leakage exponent values.
  • Excessive disagreement between pressurization and depressurization results.
  • Insufficient pressure separation in raw-point mode.
  • Pressure mismatch between positive and negative test directions.
  • Low correlation from a genuine multi-point test, when entered.
  • Difference between calculated EqLA and an entered TECTITE Canadian EqLA cross-check.
  • Missing witness or equipment calibration information.
  • Predicted hold time below the required minimum.

These checks support the technician and reviewing engineer; they do not replace professional judgment.

Once the test has been reviewed, the technician can select Download PDF Report. The application automatically converts the project and test data into a structured Enclosure Integrity Test Report.

The generated report includes site and witness information, technician and calibrated equipment details, the PASS/FAIL result, predicted hold time, EqLA, findings and recommendations, leakage test data, verification checks, the fan pressure-versus-flow curve, calculation breakdown, flags/anomalies and sign-off lines for the testing technician and witness.
